Dr. Rick Shankman, AIChE MIET MIoD, is the inventor of Phantaslube® molecular nanopolishing lubricant technology and CEO of Phantaslube LLC. Phantaslube LLC is the maker of Phantaslube®, a patented (nontoxic) revolutionary molecular nanopolishing additive for any sealed mechanical gear system, engine, turbine or bearing. Phantaslube® works by forming graphene (in situ) on the surface of the metal parts and then patented spherical nanopolishing particles from the heat generated by friction in engines and transmissions. Once formed, these “Phantasmene” nanopolishing balls cut through the rough surface imperfections on the metal parts and polish them to atomic-level perfection (Ra < 4 nm, recorded 99% elimination of contact asperities), trapping metal wear particles in the center of each new nano-sized sphere they create. The net result of having these patented nanopolishing spheres remove the asperities on the surfaces of the interacting metal parts is huge increases in efficiency and drastic reductions in carbon emissions from engines. Dr. Shankman's work also involves the "bottom-up" hydrothermal synthesis of graphene from simple carbonaceous precursors, with subsequent hydrophobic self-assembly of large area graphene films using the surface tension of water as the substrate.
